Following on from the work a few seasons ago with Greenacre School and the success of the AFC Pogmoor SEN team the Club has since been looking for more opportunities to get back into supporting Disability football in the local Barnsley community.
I'm pleased to announce that thanks to support from the Sheffield & Hallamshire FA the club will from next season be setting up a new partnership with The Exchange Recovery College in Barnsley to proved the structure and support for a new adults disability team.
The Exchange Recovery College takes an educational rather than a clinical approach to improving mental health offering a range of courses and one off workshops with the aim of improving wellbeing through learning which are all co-designed and co-delivered by people with real life experience of mental health and recovery who work in conjunction with NHS professionals, education providers and trainers to share what works for them.
The aim of the partnership with the Club is for us to provide administrative support for the team as well as funding through the FA Grow the Game scheme. The team will be 11-a-side and take part in the Sheffield Flourish League with a game per month arranged throughout next season.
I'd like to say a big thank you to Sam Firth from the Sheffield & Hallamshire FA and Hannah Burton from the College for their support in getting this partnership off the ground.
I hope you'll join me in welcoming the team to the club and wish them every success in the future as AFC Pogmoor.
