The Reds March On
By Phil McNulty
After a fantastic start to the season the previous week, the U8's returned to Poggy Rec determined to maintain the high standards that they have now set. However, this weekend produced a new dilemma for the team........no substitutes.
Holiday's and illness robbed the management team of two of their key performers for this fixture with Dylan Booth and Freddie Whaling missing on the day. This meant that one team would be limited to just the 5 starting players who would all have to play for the full 40 minutes, whilst the other had the luxury of just one substitute. With the games increasing from 30 minutes to 40 minutes this season, it is fair to say that there were some concerns about how the boys would cope.
......They didn't need to worry. Despite the high tempo performance with 100% commitment from all, the lads showed no signs of tiring. The style of football was once again a delight to witness with the lads confidently stroking the ball around the pitch. The management team were also delighted to see the continued rapid improvement in Matthew Lindley's performances with him clearly loving his football at the moment and attracting praise from all.
This coming weekend provides an unfamiliar SATURDAY fixture against Hoyland Common Falcons with the first game kicking off at 10am. Once again the Poggy lads will be short of substitutes with the change from Sunday to Saturday clashing with other commitments.
It'll be reight!!
