The Super Reds were set an away day in Worksop as their first fixture of the October Cup. In glorious conditions the lads were encouraged to maintain the high standards that they had set in the league games so far this season. This fixture also saw the introduction of the Man of The Match awards which added even more motivation for the boys (as if it was needed). Each of the lads have been set personal targets by the management team and the awards will be given as the players work towards and achieve these targets.

A significant delay in writing this report due to other commitments ( please see my other work at www.bbc.co.uk/sport/correspondents/philmcnulty?cps ) has meant that the details of this fantastic performance are now a bit vague (to say the least). However, this performance again saw Poggy u8s at their very best with another fine demonstration of junior football played in the right way.

This week saw Alfie Rice step forward to provide a complete performance from central midfield. He managed to add several fantastic goals to top-off the usual great technical ability and 100% effort. Rice more than met the challenges set by the management team in this fixture who were delighted with him and he was a deserving first winner of the Man of the Match award. Keep it up Alfie!

The second fixture saw a continuation of the first game with more great passing football finished with some fine goals. Alfie Rose had another brilliant game, and whilst he was just pipped to the Man of the Match award on the day, this is the 4th game in a row where Rose has produced a great performance. A real all-round footballer, Rose is also earning the tag "Mr Consistent" within the Poggy ranks.

The Man of the Match went to Alfie Ross who did everything asked of him and more. Ross, a fine footballer with great ability and strength, has quickly become a fantastic team player too. Whilst he has always produced individual brilliance to score goals himself, Ross is now doing the same to create chances for his team mates too.

A great win on the day means that Poggy will now host Swinton and Sheffield North End in a three-way final at Pogmoor Rec this coming Sunday.

Whatever will be, will be.

Come On Poggy
