There's Only Two Teams Called Brampton
By Phil McNulty
Does anyone have a registration form for the Barnsley league?
"...We'll call in at Cortonwood on our way home to see the new shops", was the plan as we eagerly anticipated the short journey to Brampton in Rotherham for this latest fixture of the u10s season. It was little more than 24 hours prior to kick-off when news emerged that we would actually be facing Brampton Rovers (rather than Brampton United) who play in Chesterfield; just north of St Ives - Cornwall.
The game was scheduled for a 10am kick-off, but unfortunately the local Premier Inn was fully booked so the squad all travelled down on the morning of the game. The team were without the influential duo of Freddie W (illness) and Matthew L (Mam & Dad at the races) but still travelled with a strong squad of 9 players.
The game itself was a bit of a nightmare with the Poggy lads looking fatigued from their journey down south. It sounds like it was a tough week in year 5 this week too with extra spellings to learn and supply issues with the treacle sponge on Thursday. Brampton South scored 2 or 3 times and our lot didn't.
Anyroad, I've had words with them all and they've promised to be a lot better on Wednesday against Sheffield United Junior Blades. Its a 6.30pm kick-off and it's set to be pitch-black on the Rec by about 7ish. Should be great.
