Prolific Poggy seals the win in the opener.

The opening game of the season would prove a test for the reds as they faced a Steel City side who sat in the division above them in the season prior. Poggy were looking to their hard work from pre season into action and begin the season with a solid start.

The opening minutes of the game proved a tough test with either side being unable to get a foot on the ball. After playing a classic game of 'football pinball' Ellie came out with the ball and got brought down just inside of the opposition half resulting in a free kick. Amelia stepped up to take the free kick and after several standard shouts of 'hit the penalty spot' from the poggy managers Amelia struck the ball into the box. After what seemed like forever the ball came down from the sky and bounced off the crossbar allowing Izzy to do the strikers poach and slot the ball home to make it 1-0 to the home side. Great start.
The match resumed with a Steel City kick off with Amelia again winning the ball back and playing the pass through to Lexie who began to drive forward. After a few exquisite body feints and fabulous fast feet Lexie saw herself into the box and slotted it past the goalkeeper to double the Poggy lead. 2-0.

A rather dry lat ten minutes off the half so a single chance for the number 33 Floss who could not keep her venomous volley down as it just clipped the crossbar on it's way over. The half time whistle blew and the score was 2-0 at the break.

After a team talk consisting of 'more of the same' and 'use the pitch' Poggy looked to continue the way they left the first half into the second. Not long after the second half whistle blew Lexie again saw herself with the opportunity to drive forward into the space and with extreme precision slotted the ball into the corner of the goal to grab her brace and increase the margin to 3-0.

Following the goal City went on the attack looking to decrease the deficit. After a heavy touch by the City attacker Maddi cleared the ball fantastically into the path of Scarlett who used her pace to beat 3 defenders and put the ball across into the area of uncertainty which unfortunately saw the ball cannon off the defender into the back of net, 4-0.

After a clearance from Holly after an over hit pass saw the ball fall to Ellie who picked out floss with a pass and on the second time of asking cannoned the ball with a half volley into the back of net to gain her first competitive goal for the club. The first of many.

Again a dull period from either side saw the last two minutes draw in and after a brilliant triangle move from Scarlett Floss and Ellie saw Ellie break through on the Steel City goal and slotting into the bottom corner making it 6-0 to the reds and sealing our first victory of the season. The final whistle blew.

A start to the season that we wished for turned into reality with an amazing performance in which the manager quoted 'the best i have seen you play' A well deserved win and hopefully the start to another exceptional season.
